Suzanne Wangler was a local TV news anchor in Lansing. She had resigned the Thursday before she was found dead and a day after she was charged with embezzlement.
Recently, Michigan news anchor Suzanne Wangler made headlines after being arrested for embezzlement. Now she has made headlines again after being found dead in her home on Saturday, February 23. Wangler, 42, was unresponsive when she was found in her home in Royal Oak, Michigan. Her cause of death has not been confirmed, but an autopsy is planned to find her exact cause of death. She had just retired from WLAJ in Lansing, Michigan while working under the name Suzanne Page. She was also up on charges of embezzlement and larceny and was facing possibly heavy prison time. Peaceful ArrestWangler was said to have embezzled over $149,000 from Les Pingilley from Woodhaven while acting as his financial advisor. Pingilley had entrusted $170,000 of his money with Wangler that he settled from a recent divorce. Wangler had a license to sell annuities from insurance companies, and the two had briefly dated. She was peacefully arrested in her home on Wednesday, February 20th. Wangler was said to have cashed three checks belonging to Pingilley at the Cash Connection on 8 Mile in Royal Oak Township instead of the bank and kept most of the money for herself. At one point, she gave him $5,000 to lease a truck, but that was the only money he had received since putting Wangler in charge. Investigators have also obtained copies of checks from financial institutions made out by Pingilley but endorsed with Wangler’s name. Investigators believe she signed Pingilley’s name on the checks that she made out to herself. On top of this, they also found a letter supposedly signed by Pingilley that was sent to the annuity company asking them to send a $35,000 check to Wangler’s house. She also claimed that Les Pingilley was stalking her because of her actions. Admission of GuiltWangler admitted to both embezzling the money and signing Pingilley’s name on all the documents investigators found. She was facing up to 10 years in prison for each charge. However, Wangler had a previous history of breaking the law. In November 2005, she was caught trying to shoplift over $600 in food and merchandise from the Westborn Market in Berkley. Then, in summer 2007, she was arrested for drunk driving and child endangerment in her hometown of Royal Oak. Wangler had previously worked at Metro Detroit before taking the job in Lansing in September 2007. She resigned on Thursday, February 21 citing personal reasons. The upcoming autopsy may just show whether or not her personal reasons are relate to her death.
